Each of these high resolution, photo realistic images were created from various different specimens of the same species, not all in good condition and often with twisted body elements. I employed photographic reference where I could, but with a microscope next to me much of it was raw [digital] painting used with artistic license. I had to interpret the level of iridescence on the shell as any different angle would reveal a whole rainbow of different hues that could never be captured in a single photograph. As these subjects were also very small, not one could be captured with a single photograph due to a very shallow depth of field.
